SQL Server Database Administrator
JOB DESCRIPTION
The database administrator is a key member of the Mercer Global DBA Shared Services group, responsible for creating and maintaining databases, supporting Oracle Financials and providing a stable IT environment for the business. The job capacity will involve technical and administrative support of the Microsoft SQL Server RDBMS and Business Intelligence Solutions.
Responsibilities
In particular, this job performs the following database development and support functions:
· Implementation and support SQL server data warehouse from planning and capacity management through operations and user support.
· Install, maintain and support Microsoft BI tools, including SSRS, SSAS and SSIS
· Administer and maintain on-going production and test SQL Server database environments.
· Install, maintain, support and upgrade Microsoft SQL Server database environments for multiple projects.
· Create and maintain database procedures, packages and jobs (i.e. data purging scripts).
· Prepare database load, ETL scripts, test and implement specifications.
· Work closely with the Business Intelligence analyst to ensure the needs of business users are met.
· In depth knowledge of Star and Snowflake Schema, Dimensional modeling and data warehouse methodology.
· Experience with OLAP and BI analysis tools such as Cognos, Hyperion, Business Objects is a plus.
· Monitoring Data Warehouse ETL Jobs and automate error handling, able to optimize the process for better performance
· Facilitate change management for all database changes, including schema, stored procedures, jobs, etc.
· Perform database schema design, database backup and recovery.
· Monitor, tune and troubleshoot production and test databases and data warehouse environments (including batch processes and interfaces).
· Resolve technical issues with software vendors.
· Contact technical support center for database solutions and patches.
· Support custom and 3rd party applications on a global scale for Mercer offices.
· Provide off-hour and on-call database support.
Requirements
· Prefers an academic or professional certification in computer science or equivalent work experience
· A minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in Microsoft SQL Server database administration. Strong background with Microsoft SQL Server, especially in SQL Server 2005
· Proficiency in technical skills to support business units in database technology.
· Proficiency in logical/physical data modeling, database design and development.
· Experience with Microsoft Business Intelligence Stack including Microsoft SSRS, SSAS (MDX, Cube Design) and SSIS, Microsoft Enterprise Manager and other RDBMS tools.
· Proficiency in interpersonal skills to provide work harmony in a team environment.
· Proficiency in written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong and practical knowledge of database development methodology for Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
· Expertise in recommending hardware requirements and storage capacity planning for data warehousing servers for scalable growth.
· Strong skills in T-SQL and Stored Procedures.
· Ability to work independently on multiple tasks.
· Strong and practical knowledge of database security and audit requirements.
· Strong and practical knowledge of data management and database architecture principles and practices.
· Strong and practical knowledge of Microsoft SQL server installation, patching, support and troubleshooting.
· Proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server clustering, installation, setup, support and monitoring.
· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and practical knowledge of database tuning, backup and recovery.

JOB DESCRIPTION

· Oracle Replication, Oracle RAC, SUN Clustering and CISCO CSM.
· Participate in business continuity planning; document, test and implement business continuity exercise
· Implementation and support of the data warehouse from planning and capacity management through operations and user support.
· Prepare database load, ETL scripts, test and implement specifications.
· Work closely with the Business Intelligence Analyst to ensure the needs of business users are met.
· Familiar with warehouse database design and BI capabilities

· Experience with the Cognos, Hyperion, Business Objects Data Integrator or related technologies is a plus
